BMW M has announced the end of production for the 4th gen BMW M3 Coupe at its Regensburg plant. The model hangs up its boots after 40,000 copies of it have left the factory. The BMW M3 Convertible will stay on a bit longer, but not for very long for its production ends in September 2013.
It is believed to be slowly making way for the next generation M3 based off the F30 platform.
The BMW M3 has been around since 1986 and facilitated BMW’s comeback in the DTM racing series. The fourth gen M3 Coupe was launched in 2007. It also holds the highest sales volume among the three body styles of the M3 in the latest generation (Coupe, Sedan, Convertible).
The M3 is powered by an exclusively developed 4.0-litre V8 engine with a 90-degree cylinder bank angle. It is capable of developing 420 hp, and a peak torque of 400 Nm. This engine won the International Engine of the Year award for the 3.0- to 4.0-litre class five times in a row! A dedicated outfit at BMW’s engine plant in Munich manufacture this engine and ship it to Regensburg.
Bajaj RE60 could be launched before 2014
Bajaj RE60 could be launched within the end of this year if everything at the government’s end takes place without a glitch. Mr. RC. Maheswari, president, sales and marketing commercial vehicles, Bajaj Auto said:The draft gazette notification (for the four-wheeled vehicle) has gone to the law ministry. After the law ministry, it will get published in the government papers. After that comments will be invited from people. Till then we cannot launch this product. We hope that between October and March this (financial) year. Somewhere between that period we should be able to launch the product RE 60.The RE60 has been classified as a quadricycle, inaugurating a brand new auto segment in India. There has been difference of opinions between the auto manufacturers regarding the quadricycle policy with companies like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors strongly opposing it for safety reasons. However, Bajaj Auto managed to drive past the niggles and secure approval from the government. The company is just a few steps away from launching the quadricycle in the market.Showcased first at the Delhi Auto Expo last year, the RE60 is basically a four wheeled alternative to an auto rickshaw. The passenger carrier is powered by a 200cc DTS-i petrol engine which churns out 20bhp. The top speed is expected to be in the vicinity of 70kph and the CO2 emission stands at a mere 60g/km.
